I have been a freelance writer, editor and photographer since 1993 focusing primarily on environment related stories, and wildlife and fish subjects in particular. Previously, I was associate editor and photo researcher for Trout Magazine, the national publication of the conservation organization Trout Unlimited where I specialized in fisheries science and conservation journalism.
Earning a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry and wildlife from Oregon State University, I gained practical experience in natural resources and the environment as a research assistant with OSU, working on wildlands use studies on Oregon’s Illinois River and in Denali National Park, Alaska. I also surveyed archaeological sites throughout interior Alaska for the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
I coordinated the Outdoor Recreation Program for the Corvallis, Oregon, Parks and Recreation Department and was a member of the Corvallis Mountain Rescue Unit, participating in technical rescue operations in the High Cascades.
In addition to my professional work, I have been involved in local community volunteer activities including helping to restore trout and salmon habitat in area streams and rivers, and working to develop a system of non-motorized commuter and recreational trails within the Sisters, Oregon community.
