My environmental and natural resources writing includes magazine feature articles, news stories, environmental reports, newsletters and and web content. Here are some sample projects:
Feature Magazine Articles:
● I regularly write feature articles on assignment for national and regional magazines on subjects including endangered fish and wildlife, citizens fighting to protect the environment and stories delving into the complexities of natural resource management and conservation issues. Newsletters, News Stories, Web Content:
● I write and design a quarterly newsletter, Oregon FishWorks, for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife about fish, fishing and fisheries management activities throughout the state.
● I also produce photo/text packages profiling recent and ongoing fish habitat restoration projects throughout Oregon for The Nature Conservancy. The stories and photographs are distributed through both print and electronic media.
● Other organizations I have worked with to produce news stories, web content and publications include Oregon watershed councils, Oregon Hunters Association, Association of Northwest Steelheaders and the Wild Salmon Center.
Environmental and Technical Reports:
● Defenders of Wildlife hired me to research and write an extensive report on the economic benefits of endangered species. The report, Conservation Pays, profiled a variety of businesses and organizations throughout the U.S. ranging from Florida dive shop owners to tour guides in Wyoming who generate income from species listed under the Endangered Species Act.
● The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs contracted me as project editor and writer for their Federal Energy Regulatory Commission application to own and operate the Pelton-Round Butte Hydro Project on Oregon’s Deschutes River. The project culminated in a four-volume environmental and engineering analysis.
